Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences (DRILS) is a research institute focusing on fundamental and interdisciplinary research to address unmet medical needs. DRILS established a focused program on rare disease biology five years ago (2019) and has developed a patented technology platform for model creation and generated transgenic models for rare diseases in zebrafish. We envisioned establishing a cutting-edge interdisciplinary research-training program focused on rare diseases, integrating clinical and laboratory sciences, focusing on fundamental and interdisciplinary research, to address unmet medical needs. The idea of establishing the Center for Rare Disease Models (CRDM) was conceptualized to accomplish this noble initiative, and funding for this facility was received from Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories (DRL) under their CSR program.
