ABOUT NOST
Organic Chemistry is a foundational discipline within the chemical sciences, underpinning transformative advances that impact daily life – from the discovery of life-saving drugs to advanced materials and technologies such as organic conductors, OLEDs and functional polymers. Beyond the intellectual challenges associated with molecular and materials construction, Organic Chemistry serves as the fountainhead of several critical industries including pharmaceuticals, polymers, agro-chemicals, dyes, explosives, perfumery chemicals and fine and specialty chemicals. These industries are indispensable to national priorities such as food security, healthcare, infrastructure, transportation and defence.

In an era marked by rapid technological change, sustainability imperatives and increasing convergence of disciplines, Organic Chemistry research in India must remain strongly connected to key advances in basic science, interfacial research areas and applied technologies. Achieving this requires the continuous nurturing of highly trained, globally competitive organic chemists and chemical scientists, capable of translating fundamental discoveries into scalable and impactful solutions.

One effective approach towards this objective has been the creation of interactive national platforms – conferences, symposia and conclaves – where contemporary advances, emerging challenges and future directions in Organic Chemistry and allied disciplines can be discussed and deliberated upon. Such platforms play a vital role in strengthening India’s research ecosystem by fostering meaningful engagement between academia and industry, stimulating collaborative research and aligning scientific innovation with national and industrial needs.

Recognizing this long-term need, the National Organic Symposium Trust (NOST) was established as a public charitable trust on 21 January 1983 in Madras. The Trust was founded by some of the most distinguished organic chemists of the country – (late) Dr. T. R. Govindachari, Dr. S. C. Bhattacharya, Dr. Sukh Dev, Dr. S. Swaminathan and Dr. Nitya Anand- with the objective of organizing high-quality scientific meetings at regular intervals. Since the first NOST-sponsored Organic Chemistry Conference (OCC) held at Hassan, Karnataka in December 1988 under the chairmanship of Professor Goverdhan Mehta, NOST has consistently played a pivotal role in shaping Organic Chemistry research and discourse in India.

ABOUT I-NOST CONCLAVE
While NOST-sponsored Organic Chemistry Conferences and J-NOST meetings have been held regularly, the Trustees and Council of NOST recognized the need for a dedicated forum focused on structured, outcome-oriented engagement between academia and industry. This led to the conceptualization of the Industry – NOST (I-NOST) Conclave.

The first edition of the I-NOST Conclave was held at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay during September 13–14, 2022. The conclave brought together leading organic chemists from academia, senior scientists and R&D leaders from industry, along with NOST Trustees and Council members.

Building on the strong foundation and insights generated during the first conclave, the 2nd Edition of the I-NOST Conclave is being organized at Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences (DRILS), as part of NOST’s continuing mission.

The 2nd I-NOST Conclave aims to further deepen the engagement by addressing emerging scientific, technological and translational challenges at the intersection of Organic Chemistry, materials science, sustainability and process innovation. The conclave will provide a focused platform for:

  • Identifying future research directions and capability gaps relevant to industry and national priorities
  • Enabling structured dialogue on translational research, scale-up and manufacturability
  • Exploring collaborative models, funding mechanisms and open-innovation frameworks
  • Strengthening long-term partnerships among academic institutions, research organizations and industry

Through invited lectures, focused discussions and interactive sessions involving experts from academia, industry and research organizations, the 2nd I-NOST Conclave seeks to catalyse impactful dialogues and deliberations that contribute meaningfully to country’s evolving organic chemistry and innovation ecosystem.

It is our great privilege that, with the support and association of Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, Director, CSIR–Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, we are hosting the 2nd edition of I-NOST Conclave 2026 at Hyderabad.
