History

Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences (DRILS) is a non-profit institute with a goal to conduct innovative research in unifying areas of chemistry, biology and chemical biology.

Our objective is to create and foster a research culture where chemists and biologists work together to generate original ideas, and generate knowledge which can lead to novel therapies for human disease and an improvement in quality of life.

Training future generations of scientists working at the interface of chemistry and biology is an integral part of our mission.

DRILS was conceived as an autonomous entity under section 25 in 2004, as the result of a partnership between the state government, private industry and the University of Hyderabad.

The facilities, inaugurated in 2007 are spread over an area of 130000 square feet (12000 square meters). The institute is located in the southeast corner of the campus of the University of Hyderabad.

DRILS is located in the midst of one of the most dynamic research and innovation hubs in India, comprising several global and Indian IT companies including Microsoft, Google, Infosys and Wipro, the Indian School of Business, International Institute of Information Technology, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, and T-Hub, an innovative and dynamic start-up incubator.
